Elastic Investigation - Ground Motion Variation |
| The investigation into the ground motions was a significant
part of this research program. Local motions were analyzed,
corrected, and used as inputs into the elastic model. Of the closest
ground motions (TCU078, TCU079,
TCU089, and TCU129),
only the closest and the largest were considered for analysis. The closest motion at 7.4 km from the bridge was TCU078 (Ground Motion 1). The largest was the TCU129 record at 12.34 km from the bridge (Ground Motion 2). The two record were rotated from their north-south/east-west orientation to the longitudinal and transverse directions for the bridge's main span. Ground Motion 2 carries nearly twice the peak acceleration in the Vertical, NS, and EW directions as Ground Motion 1. Each record had three components. In the elastic study, different components were analyzed in different combinations to capture the effect of those different components and their influence on the Ji Lu bridge. The different components in the elastic results are denoted as V (Vertical), L (Longitudinal), and T (Transverse). |
